Taj mahal defeated by Mamallapuram temple : Know the full report.
Recently a report by the tourism ministry stated that Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh , Andra Pradesh and Maharashtra accounted around 65.41% of Domestic tourism in year 2021-22. In the recent reports Mamallapuram which is the heritage site according to the UNESCO has now beaten Taj mahal in number of foreign visitors, as till now Taj Mahal was the most famous tourist attraction across the country not only for Indians but for the foreigners.
According to the reports around 1,44,984 people visited the Mamallapuram this year , the place situated around 60kms from Chennai has left behind Taj Mahal too. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t loved by the visitors anymore, it is on the 2nd position holding around 38,922 people this year. Out of the top 10 monuments across the country are located in Tamil nadu which includes tiger-headed, rock-cut temple and two other monuments in coastal hamlet Saluvankuppam in Chengalpattu district, the Gingee Fort near Gingee district, the Vattakottai Fort near Kanyakumari district, the Thirumayam Fort, the rock-cut Jain temple and Sittanavasal in Pudukkottai district.
Other than the top monuments, Agra fort, Qutab minar and other monuments are also on the list which is recently published. The list also stated that Tamil Nadu, Andra Pradesh , Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar pradesh are on the top for the domestic tourists across the country. Around 65% of the country’s total tourism is being hold by these 5 states this year.
